PSP - Slim PSP Hits 1 Million Sold

For its first couple of months in the Japanese market, the slimmer and cheaper version of Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) has managed to reach the 1 million in units sold.

The new PSP was officially launched in Japan on September 20 and it reached the million mark on November 22, which was two weeks faster than the original PSP that was released last December 2004.

The new PSP is comparably lighter and thinner than the original version; and the better news is that it is slightly cheaper with a larger LCD screen.

To keep up with the holiday shopping season, Sony is coming up with two new bundles – the “Deep Red Value Pack” and “Deep Red 1 Seg Pack”. Sony plans to put these two on sale but will be available in limited supply only.

In a previous sales estimate, Sony apparently had managed to sell 250,000 new PSP units after only four days in the market. In the past week, sales are not as high but is still doing quite well.

According to Media Create, the PSP became the second highest selling games hardware in Japan from the period of November 12 to 18. During the said week, the PSP sold a total of 65, 609 PSPs sold with the DS outselling the PSP at 76,069 units.
